About Ban Krut
Ban Krut is the kind of Thai beach that foreign travelers used to stumble upon decades ago. Stretched along a wide gently curving bay south of Prachuap Khiri Khan city, the beach is long, wide, and clean, backed by casuarina trees and a quiet road with small seafood restaurants and family-run guesthouses.
The main landmark is Wat Tang Sai, a gleaming temple perched on a headland at the southern end of the bay offering panoramic sea views. Ban Krut has been popular with Thai domestic tourists for weekend getaways, but international visitors remain few. There is no nightlife, no jet skis, and no aggressive touts. What there is: fresh seafood, calm swimming waters, morning dolphin cruises, and the simple pleasure of a beautiful beach largely to yourself.
The area is slowly developing with a few boutique resorts and cafes appearing, but it retains a village atmosphere that feels increasingly rare along the Thai coast.
Historical Note
Ban Krut has been a small fishing and farming community for centuries on the narrow strip between the Gulf of Thailand and the Tenasserim Hills. Tourism has been slow and mostly Thai-domestic, keeping the village character intact.
